FAQs
-
IV therapy is fluid containing vitamins and minerals given directly into a vein through a cannula, by a registered nurse.
-
It is an invasive procedure and it carries risks, which are set out below. It is not suitable for everyone. Your nurse will go through your history with you before anything is given, and if there is a reason not to proceed she will tell you.
-
Between thirty minutes and an hour, depending on what is given. Your nurse will tell you at your consultation.
-
You will feel the cannula going in, and the site can be tender afterwards. If anything is uncomfortable during the infusion, tell your nurse and she will stop.
-
Bruising, swelling or tenderness at the cannula site are the common ones. Less commonly, infection at the site, inflammation of the vein, or an allergic reaction. You are monitored throughout. If you feel unwell at any point, tell your nurse.
-
That is decided at your consultation, based on your history and what is appropriate for you. There is no set schedule.
-
If you have any pre-existing conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are concerned about your suitability for this type of therapy, ask for more information before you book.
