IV Therapy
IV Therapy
We offer intravenous vitamin infusions at our Orange clinic, given by a registered nurse.
What goes into an infusion is decided at a consultation, based on what is appropriate for you. What’s right for you depends on how you feel, what you’re trying to achieve and your medical history.
Common questions
-
IV therapy is fluid containing vitamins and minerals given directly into a vein through a cannula, by a registered nurse.
-
It is an invasive procedure and it carries risks, which are set out below. It is not suitable for everyone. Your nurse will go through your history with you before anything is given, and if there is a reason not to proceed she will tell you.
-
If you have any pre-existing conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are concerned about your suitability for this type of therapy, ask for more information before you book.
-
A cannula has to be inserted into a vein, so there is a needle. Most people describe it as a sharp scratch. The infusion itself is not usually painful, but tell your nurse if anything feels wrong during it.
-
Bruising, swelling or soreness at the cannula site are common. Less commonly there can be vein irritation, light-headedness, nausea or a reaction to something in the infusion. Rarely, infusions can cause a severe allergic reaction or fluid overload. Your nurse stays with you for the session.
-
Sessions typically range from 30 minutes to an hour.
